When it comes to your child’s oral health, now is the best time to start practicing excellent oral hygiene. Now is also a good time to start taking your kids to your Chino Hills dentist for oral care. Good oral hygiene begins at a very early state in life, as early as infancy. Whether you are bottle feeding or nursing, you should begin incorporating some type of dental hygiene as soon as possible.
And if you have not already done so, make sure your child is ready to have their first dental visit between the ages of one and two. Your dentist will want to keep your child’s teeth free from plaque, this is important because bacteria may lead to other dental diseases. The state of teeth throughout each stage of development is important in your child’s overall health.
Regular dental checkups keep your child’s mouth clean. The removal of built-up plaque and tartar eliminates surface stains and prevents bacteria from sticking to the tooth. It is this very same bacteria that may cause cavities down the road. Young children are not all able to properly brush their teeth, so trips to the dentist office for professional cleanings are critical to oral health.
Children with baby teeth have much different dental needs than adults or kids with permanent teeth. A pediatric dentist is able to cater the needs of children of all ages and stages of development. In addition, the experience of visiting the dentist office can mark a child’s perception from the very first visit. There are many adults who still suffer anxiety when visiting their dentist because they lacked positive experiences at the dentist as a child.
The starting ground for adult teeth begins with baby teeth. Healthy baby teeth make it easier for adult teeth to come in straight and healthy. Neglected or otherwise improperly cared for baby teeth may fall out too soon, which causes remaining teeth to move forward. When this occurs, the permanent teeth are more likely to grow in out of place or crooked. But by bringing your child in for regular dental visits, this can be prevented. And if teeth do begin to fall out prematurely, an appliance can be applied to facilitate proper alignment.
Maintaining teeth at an early state of development helps prevent additional work that may need to happen in the future. Proper dental care in the early stage of life is the best way to avoid ridicule from others due to poorly aligned teeth and save money on advanced orthodontic work when they reach adolescents.
Dental checkups are the best way to find and stop decay before it leads to a cavity. Children don’t always eat all the right foods and many probably have more than their share of sweets, compound this with the fact many children also slack on brushing and flossing and you have what could be a serious problem. Detecting cavities early on means less time and less cost in repairs. Neglecting cavities enables them to grow and further damage the tooth. Teeth damaged by cavities can lead to infections and advanced dental procedures that are costly.
By taking your kids to the dentist on a regular basis, you are instilling in them the importance of making dental appointments and following through with them. Children learn about responsibility, their oral hygiene and how to care about their bodies as a whole. Many adults still don’t realize the importance of dental care, perhaps because they didn’t learn about it at a young age.
